Project 27
Modifying S Scale Locomotives from AC to DC Operation
The advantage of converting S Scale (American Flyer (TM) ) and O Scale locomotion to DC operation are many including quieter operation, slower speed control, direction forward and backward control without need for manual switching , less current draw and ability to operate on an automated point to point layout. There are several ways to achieve this conversion including the replacement of the motor with a CAN type motor or electrical modification of the existing motor.

Project 27A  Describes how these changes are be done in S scale using a CAN type motor from SNS Trains  .

Project 27 B Describes how to install a Bridge Rectifier Circuit to allow for Forward and Reverse in DC mode.

Note : Once modified the locomotive should only be used with a DC Controller (Not an AC)
